Kiev, Ukraine, is cool and will inevitably surprise visitors upon arrival.

Ukraine! Having survived the Mongol Empire, WWII, Chernobyl, and Soviet rule, Kyiv is the proud capital of the Ukraine. Filled with theaters, museums, religious sites, modern buildings and ancient ruins, the city of Kyiv is the center of Ukrainian culture.

Kiev was once a city known for its grandiose streets and omnipresent Soviet architecture, but now the city is becoming synonymous with startups and its innate creative side that was suppressed for too many years.Kiev was once a city known for its grandiose streets and omnipresent Soviet architecture, but now the city is becoming synonymous with startups and its innate creative side that was suppressed for too many years.
To enjoy a little bit of old culture alongside Ukrainian Food, ask a local for the nearest cafeteria-style restaurant, where you can enjoy local dishes at an affordable price.
Try the lamb chops I.e. Carre of Lamb....green beans as a side are really nice...spicey as well. A must try is Tartar Ash, tiny meat filled dumplings with chopped walnuts.
Have never have one bad bite at either location.
When to Go!
I visited for a week in the mid of October and temperature was around 4-6°c
Winters can be long and dark. Late spring, early autumn, and summer are most definitely the time to get the most out of Kiev. Venturing to the Ukrainian capital during these months will allow travelers to experience the parks, café terraces, and streets to their fullest. If traveling in winter, expect snow and sub-zero temperatures.
Adventurous traveler in Kiev :
Pechersk Lavra – Caves Monastery - Monastery and church complex with underground tunnels that were unlike any I have seen before. Kyiv’s Orthodox churches are real gems, whether you are religious or not. Visiting the churches is also educational because it holds a lot of Kyiv’s history.
Mezhyhirya Park - “Museum of Corruption” is the residence of Ukraine’s former President. After he abandoned the estate during the 2014 revolution, it opened to the public. It includes an automobile museum, a golf course, ostrich farm, dog kennel, numerous fountains, man made lakes, a helicopter pad and a small church.
One of the joys of Kyiv is discovering all the beautiful viewpoints. Try catching the views from the Motherland monument, Saint Sophia Cathedral or the People’s Friendship Arch.
